Editor's Overview

Minesweeper is a puzzle game application developed by F-Droid Open Source, packaged as a single Android APK of version 1.3 weighing in at 942.66 KB. The package targets Android 4.1+ and above. Below you'll find the publisher's own description, a quick spec sheet, and a short buyer-beware checklist so you know exactly what you're installing before tapping download.

Install Checklist

  1. Only download through the button on this page — never from third-party mirrors or shortened links, which are the most common way malware spreads.
  2. File size is a light 942.66 KB, so it installs quickly even on modest connections.
  3. This build is signed by "F-Droid Open Source" — always verify the developer name matches what's listed on the app's official store page before installing an update.
  4. After install, Android may prompt you to allow "Install from unknown sources" — approve only this one install, then revoke the permission in Settings > Apps > Special access.
  5. We link directly to the APK file or the publisher's repository; we do not modify the binary. Always run a virus scan after any sideloaded install.

About this app

Every other Minesweeper on Android is either a privacy nightmare stuffed with ads and trackers, or a bare-bones port that looks like it was built in 2009. This one is neither.

No ads. No permissions. No analytics. No internet. Just the game.

Built with Jetpack Compose and Material 3, it looks and feels like a first-party Google app. Material You dynamic colour adapts the entire palette to your wallpaper on Android 12+.

The grid always fills the screen. Cells scale to any device. No zooming, no tiny tap targets.

Three modes that are mechanically distinct, not just bigger grids

• Easy, 9×9, classic rules, guaranteed safe first click, full chord support
• Medium, 12×12, higher mine density, 5-minute countdown, only your clicked cell is safe at the start
• Hard, 14×14, no safe start, chord disabled, 3-minute countdown, and fog of war: revealed cells fade out after 6 seconds and you must hold the entire mine map in your head

Fog of war is a novel mechanic that does not exist in any other Minesweeper app.

Polish
• Ripple flood-fill, empty areas reveal outward in animated waves
• Spring bounce on every cell open and flag placement
• Screen shake on game over
• LED-style mine counter and timer, blinks red under 30 seconds
• Haptic feedback on every interaction
• Deep-space dark theme with vibrant number colours

100% free and open source, GPLv3, no ads, no tracking, no analytics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Minesweeper free to download?
Yes. The APK file linked from this page is free. The developer may offer in-app purchases once installed, but obtaining the installer itself costs nothing.

What Android version does Minesweeper require?
Android 4.1+ or newer. Installing on older devices may cause crashes or refuse to install.

Is Minesweeper safe to install?
We link to the exact APK published by F-Droid Open Source. We do not modify the file. Still, as with any sideloaded app, scan it with a reputable antivirus before opening it, and only grant permissions the app genuinely needs.

How do I update Minesweeper?
Install the newer version on top of the old one — Android will keep your data. If the signature differs, uninstall first (you may lose local progress).

Why is the app not installing?
Common causes: not enough storage, an older Android version than 4.1+, or a conflicting build already installed. Free up space, check your OS version, and uninstall any previous copy before retrying.
